At Ladybird Books, their audience is very much international. What’s pretty cool about the brand, is that the books are used to help educate children across the world in learning the English language. From modern classics like Peppa Pig, to true classics like Peter and Jane, the London based team at Ladybird Books were looking for a refresh of the existing website to help reach more schools and children across the world. We were given the challenge of creating a media library of ebooks and resources, per book, that could only be accessed by owning that particular Ladybird book, as well as to improve the overall user experience of the website.
The best place to get started on this project was to explore a whole new approach to the user experience, making sure that anyone can flow easily from book to book, whilst also making their way swiftly through the sign up and book verification steps in order to access their account.
Alongside this we also worked on a plan for the back-end, how best to implement this integration between WordPress and Amazon AWS, in a way that fully encrypts and protects the resources being provided. Additionally, we needed a visually appealing way of displaying the ebooks. For this we used a JavaScript page turn functionality, which pulls its resources directly from the AWS integration.
On top of all of this, we carried out our routine style of development in creating the front-end based on the new designs, with great focus on the mobile experience, as well as the back-end editing capabilities to help make the site as easy to manage as possible.
