Considering our MD is a motorbike enthusiast, this was a good fitting project for us; no wonder we won the client over with our love for bikes!
Thunder Road are Honda and Suzuki dealers across the South West of the UK whose existing website was built in a proprietary content management system run by a single developer, with no mobile or tablet versions. The team based at HQ in Bridgend were looking for a way to make their web presence safer and bring it more in line with best development practices, easier content management, and new designs to reflect who they are.
To add complication, the site needed to integrate with a third party dealer management system to pull in all available bikes across 3 dealerships, as well as integrating with a live finance calculator to display offers and interest rates on used bikes.
A challenge we willingly accepted.
We approached this project for Thunder Road with an assessment of how the website was already being used and what customers found the most important. When looking into this we found that Used Bikes were the main reason for visits to the website and so it was key to make a point of this throughout the new site. We went ahead and created some bold new designs for mobile, tablet and desktop devices that emphasised the boldness of the Thunder Road brand and cracked on with applying this in development.
Then came the task of integrating with Pyramid, the dealer management system. To do this we worked with their development team to understand the data and created a custom integration that pulls across the new data at multiple points throughout the day, whilst also cleaning up the old data for bikes that are no longer available. This was the first integration of its kind between Pyramid and WordPress, which we’re buzzing to have made happen.
As mentioned the site is built in WordPress and features some great related content across several pages, helping people flow through to sections of the site that interest them the most. We also used Advanced Custom Fields and custom post types in the back-end to help make content editing as easy as possible in the long term.
The result is a powerful, flexible and on-brand site that the Thunder Road team are incredibly proud of.
Check out this integration we developed with the finance provider, shown throughout the Used Bikes section of the site for users to easily work out finance quotes for the bikes they’d love to buy. Pretty cool, right?
