What's covered in the WordPress website audit with Illustrate Digital?

It's important to arm you with the right information to help you make great decisions. This is how we've structured our audits and the insights they uncover. Let's take a look at what's covered as part of our WordPress website audit process.

WordPress best practices

Taking a look beneath the surface at your WordPress back-end, we delve into your plugins, post types, user privileges, software versions and more to perform a health check of your website. This is benchmarked against WordPress best practices and aligned with our own standards as a leading WordPress agency.

Security and performance

It’s easy to carry out a few website security and performance tests, but in this audit we dig in to understand the reasons why your site may not be performing, or why it may be insecure, and uncover opportunities for improvement. We align this with our expertise as an ISO27001 certified organisation for security.

Codebase and architecture

Often the root cause of a lot of issues is the less obvious area of code quality, workflow and infrastructure. Our developers take a deeper look at the foundation of your website and recommend ways to strengthen your setup. We’re also looking for operational improvements here to save you time and money.

WordPress Audit FAQ

We sure do. Our experts need to take a look beneath the surface in order to deliver you the best quality audit report possible.

However, there are a couple of ways to make this process more safe and secure:

  • Non-Disclosure Agreements: we’re happy to sign your NDA (or provide our own) in order to give you assurance that we’re not going to share your trade secrets. Security and confidentiality are important to us, and it’s important you can trust your audit provider. This is one of the many reasons we’re ISO 27001 certified for information security management.
  • Staging Server Access: we get it, you don’t want someone snooping around on your live website with the potential for things to break, and that’s okay. As long as your hosting provider has the option to create, or provide access to a staging environment, we can perform our audit on a direct copy of your website without needing to login and access the live version.

If you have any specific security requirements or concerns, speak to one of our team and we’ll be happy to chat about the options available to us.

Not necessarily. Our WordPress audits are split in two: WordPress back-end, and codebase. It’s up to you how detailed you’d like us to be when carrying out the audit on your website.

If you’d like to get started by reviewing the WordPress back-end only, then no access to your code repository is needed. On the other hand, if you’d like us to carry out the full audit process, then we’ll need access to your code.

Every website infrastructure is different, so if you’d like to discuss your options on how to share your code with us in the most secure way, reach out today and one of our team will discuss the options with you.

We absolutely do. Accessibility is a crucial aspect of any website, especially when it comes to ensuring engagement is high across all stakeholders, including those living with disabilities and accessibility requirements.

Whilst our WordPress website audit covers a few small accessibility aspects, we have a separate, dedicated audit just for this.

To enquire about an accessibility audit, get in touch and one of our team will discuss your requirements and walk through the options with you.

We sure do! At Illustrate Digital we specialise in two areas: UX and WordPress. For those looking to understand more about their users, and benchmark their website against best practices, we have a specific UX expert review that’s built for auditing websites from a user and aesthetic perspective.

You can find out more about our UX audits over on our UX Expert Review page.
